Living room renovations
Built-in storage, a focal point worth looking at, and — where the structure allows — a ceiling that finally gives the room some height.
The work
Living rooms are usually the last room to be renovated and the first room everyone sees. The work is rarely structural, but it is where millwork and lighting earn their money.
The two moves that change a living room most are built-ins and a ceiling. Full-height millwork solves storage and gives the room architecture; vaulting or removing a bulkhead changes the proportions entirely.
Where the living room opens to the kitchen, the project usually becomes a main-floor project. We plan flooring, trim, lighting and sightlines across the whole level so nothing stops at an arbitrary line.
