The brief
The original kitchen was closed off from the dining room, short on counter space, and long on soffits. Everything happened in a two-metre stretch between the sink and the stove, and the family ate in a room they never really used.
Warm rather than stark. Storage that reaches the ceiling instead of collecting dust on top of it. A proper island to sit at, a hood that becomes the focal point, and a dedicated coffee and drinks station so the main run stays clear while someone is cooking.

The build
Kitchens are won on the millwork drawings, long before anything is installed. Every cabinet, appliance and outlet was set on paper first, and the same project manager ran demolition through to the final adjustment of every door.
The soffit came out and the wall was reframed so a custom plaster-look hood could rise to the ceiling. A full-height quartz slab backsplash sits behind the range with the veining book-matched across the seam, and a brass pot filler is plumbed to the wall so the tap is where the pot is. Slim brass picture lights over the flanking niches keep the wall glowing after dark.
Floor-to-ceiling cream shaker cabinetry runs the length of the pantry wall with an integrated fridge surround and a built-in wall oven. The island carries a quartz top, a fireclay apron sink and an unlacquered brass bridge tap that will patina with use. Every pull is solid brass, deliberately mixed in length rather than repeated.
On the dining side, a rift-cut white oak bar breaks the cream palette on purpose: quartz counter, matching slab backsplash, an open shelf for glassware and two brass swing-arm sconces. It keeps the espresso machine, the drinks and the morning traffic out of the main kitchen entirely.

Outcome
The kitchen and dining room now read as one room with two stations. Cooking happens on the range wall, coffee and drinks happen at the oak bar, and the island is free for whoever is sitting there — which, the clients tell us, is everyone.
